With guards Alison Lacey and Kelsey Bolte combining to shoot 6-30 from the field, Iowa State received a much needed offensive boost from freshman forward Chelsea Poppens in its 48-39 win over Kansas State. Poppens led all scorers with 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, five of which were at offensive.

The Cyclones held an 11 point lead going into the half but struggled for much of the second half offensively.

A strong defensive effort and excellent free throw shooting by Iowa State stopped Kansas State from gaining much momentum in the second half. The Cyclones shot 12-14 from the free throw line which proved to be the difference during Saturday’s win.

At 10-4, Iowa State still remains tied with Oklahoma for second in the Big 12. However, the Cyclones still hold the tie-breaker over the Sooners.
