LETTERS: Positive impact of stories

Linda Meinig

For the first time today, I happened to click on the newspaper’s link on the ISU Web site. I was looking for info on how bad the storm had been. I read several articles and then saw the editorial concerning the Shanda/Kelly story and the reaction to your coverage. It all had such an impact on me. Thank you for publishing them. As a teacher and a mom of three college students, I am grateful the story was shared.

I mentioned this at lunch today and was asked by several teachers to share the link. Your story will now be shared with multiple families in our area. One of my co-workers is a youth minister and plans to use the articles as the focus of her next meeting. The senseless loss of one life and the irrevocable damage to the lives of countless others is tragic.

But maybe, with the passage of time and God’s grace, the family and friends of both of these young women will find comfort in the fact their stories have made a positive impact on the lives of all who have learned about them. Both families are in my prayers.
