CROSS COUNTRY: Iowa State takes third at regionals

The ISU cross country team had one of its most successful weekends of the season as both its men’s and women’s teams finished third overall at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet in Springfield, Mo.

Junior Hillary Bor and senior Guor Marial ran neck-and-neck to finish the meet fifth and sixth. Bor finished the 10,000-meter race with a time of 30:55, with Marial finishing just one second off Bor’s pace.

Sophomore Yonas Mebrahtu and senior Jory Zunich also contributed to the Cyclones’ success by finishing 30th and 32nd. Sophomore Joel Limo rounded out the scoring for the Cyclones by finishing 42nd with a time of 32:15.

On the women’s side, senior Lisa Koll, a two-time All-American, led the women by finishing third overall. Koll finished the 6,000-meter race with a time of 20:19, only 12 seconds off Illinois’ Angela Bizzarri, who won the meet.

Freshman Aliphine Tuliamuk and senior Grace Kemmey followed closely after Koll’s finish by finishing 10th and 16th.

The ISU cross country team finishes its season at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 23.
