ACTORS brings ‘FrUiTCaKeS’ to Ames
November 2, 2009
The next play by local arts outlet ACTORS, 120 Abraham Drive, takes us to Christmastime in McCord’s Ferry, S.C., where Jamie, a kid who ran away from home, finds shelter in Mack’s Whirligig Emporium, but Mack takes Jamie under his wing and helps him find his way home.
Written by Julian Wiles, “FrUiTCaKeS” is about the small, odd South Carolina community and the “crime spree” a tired and hungry Jamie goes on — he steals a fruitcake intended for resident Florence Felkel.
Along with incidents involving three dozen Christmas trees, thousands of outdoor Christmas lights, a chicken pox epidemic, a lost cat named Tutti Frutti and more, “FrUiTCaKeS” is a story about alienation, understanding and reconciliation as Jamie comes to admire and appreciate the town and its people.
The “FrUiTCaKeS” cast is composed of 25 actors and is directed by Dean Stevens.
