UPDATES: Iowa State takes on Kansas at Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The Cyclones had a last-ditch effort for the end zone when Austen Arnaud scrambled to his left and threw the ball for a streaking Darius Darks on fourth down. The ball fell harmlessly to the blue-and-red painted end zone, meaning Iowa State would turn the ball over on downs, down 41-36.

Kansas then killed the final minute of the clock, giving them the victory and keeping their undefeated season alive.

Iowa State now falls to 3-3 and comes home next week to face Baylor on Homecoming.

(14:26 Fourth Quarter) No one in attendance at Memorial Stadium can keep up with what’s happening, as Kansas is once again on top, now 34-30 after a 46-yard touchdown pass from Todd Reesing to Dezmon Briscoe.

Briscoe had a step on his cover man, Leonard Johnson, and had to make an acrobatic, diving catch into the end zone to complete the touchdown, but did so with relative ease.

Now the Jayhawks will kick back to the Cyclones, who have scored, seemingly, at will in the second half.

Iowa State took back the lead, but didn’t hold it long after Kansas put together a six-play, 67 yard drive to take the lead 27-23.

Arnaud connected with senior Marquis Hamilton on a 39-yard strike down the right sideline to set the Cyclones up at the two yard line. Hamilton battled with Kansas’ Chase Knighton on the play, but came down with the ball even though Knighton was called for pass interference.

On the next play, Arnaud powered in behind his two tight ends and Alexander Robinson who paved the way for the junior quarterback. Arnaud now has 10 carries for 54 yards and the touchdown.

Iowa State’s Alexander Robinson ran the ball seven yards for his second touchdown of the game, capping a drive on which he had four caries for 14 yards and the touchdown.

Austen Arnaud converted on a fourth and eight with a 16-yard pass to junior receiver Jake Williams, keeping the drive alive.

Grant Mahoney missed his second point-after try of the game, hooking his kick to the left. Mahoney has now missed his last three extra point attempts after being perfect (47-47) on his career, previously.

(0:00 First Quarter) At the end of the first quarter, Iowa State is tied with No. 16 Kansas at 6-6.

Both teams put together 80-plus yard scoring drives, but then failed to convert on the extra point tries. Iowa State’s Grant Mahoney missed his try wide right before Kansas’ Jacob Branstetter bounced his try off the left upright.

(10:32 First Quarter) After an 84-yard drive, the Cyclones are in the end zone first on a one-yard run from junior Alexander Robinson.

Iowa State quarterback Austen Arnaud went three-of-four passing for 81 yards on the scoring drive.

(12:00 First Quarter) Almost as quickly as the Jayhawks’ first drive was underway, it stalled at the 37 yardline, resulting in a Kansas punt to the 16 yard line.

On Kansas’ first posession, they drove 42 yards with two Todd Reesing completions for 35 yards.

(15 minutes before kickoff) It’s a very cool, breezy day here in Lawrence 15 minutes before kickoff, but the Homecoming crowd at Kansas is slowly filing in to Kivisto Field at Memorial Stadium.

As both teams file into the locker rooms, the KU marching band files out from the end-zone seats onto the field, preparing for their pre-game routine.

Kansas is a 19-to-20 point favorite coming into the game. Kickoff is set for 11:35.
