UPDATE: Iowa State defeats Baylor 24-10

Iowa State is playing host to the Baylor Bears for this year’s Homecoming game. Temperatures are in the mid-40s with cloudy skies. The Cyclones enter the game with a 3-3 overall record, while Baylor sits at 3-2.
First quarter:
2:47 – Baylor 3, Iowa State 0
After several dead-end drives, Baylor was able to get on the scoreboard first with a 38-yard field goal kick by Ben Park. Baylor had put itself into striking distance when quarterback Blake Szymanski completed a 54-yard pass to Ernest Smith. Iowa State’s defense was able to hold, however, forcing the Bears to kick the field goal.
The Bears began the drive on their own 33-yard line after Iowa State’s Grant Mahoney missed a 50-yard field goal wide right.

Second quarter:
13:38 – Iowa State 7, Baylor 3
On the ensuing drive, Iowa State quarterback Austen Arnaud was able to get in the Cyclone offense in-sync, putting together a 73-yard touchdown drive. Arnaud capped off the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Arnaud has completed 10-of-14 passes for a total of 88 yards.

8:55 – Iowa State 14, Baylor 3
The Cyclone offense continued to roll, scoring on its second consecutive possesion. Arnaud completed 6-of-7 passes on the drive, hooking up with Derrick Catlett for 4-yard touchdown pass. Iowa State almost had its drive ended when Sedrick Johnson fumbled on the Baylor one yard line, but the Cyclones’ Darius Darks was able to recover the ball to preserve the drive. The Cyclone offense has racked up a total of 216 yards.

1:08 – Iowa State 14, Baylor 3
In the midst of an impressive 166 yard, two touchdown first half performance, Austen Arnaud threw his first interception of the game, which Baylor’s Terrance Williams returned from the endzone for 19 yards.
Third quarter
12:30 – Iowa State 17, Baylor 3
Iowa State’s defense came up with a big stop on the opening drive of the second half, stopping Baylor on fourth down from the Bears’ 32-yard line. The Cyclone offense took over, but was stopped on three consecutive downs. Mahoney put his first half miss behind him, tacking on a 45-yard field goal to give Iowa State a 14 point lead.

7:59 – Iowa State 24, Baylor 3
With Jerome Tiller taking over at quarterback, the Cyclones piled on seven more with a 20-yard touchdown run by Tiller. Iowa State began the drive at Baylor 32, after the Cyclones’ Zac Sandvig blocked Baylor’s punt. TIller scrambled for 27 yards and completed his only pass for 7 yards.

Fred Garrin picked off his second pass of the game, allowing the Cyclone offense to take over at on the Iowa State 49 yard line. Tiller reamained in control of the offense guiding Iowa State 32 yards down the field before stalling out on the Baylor 18. Mahoney came on for a 35 yard field goal attempt, but missed wide left.
1:49 – Iowa State 24, Baylor 3
Iowa State took over on its own 19 yard line after Leonard Johnson picked up the Cyclones’ third interception of the game. With help in the rushing game by back up running back Jeremiah Schwartz, Tiller continued to move the offense down field. Iowa State came within two yards of the endzone, but a false start penalty and sack of Tiller forced the Cyclones to send in Mahoney for a 30-yard field goal attempt. However for the third time in the game Mahoney missed the kick.
0:09 – Iowa State 24, Baylor 10
With the game nearly finished, Baylor was able to find its way into to the endzone for the first time. The Bears were able to move the ball 80 yards for a 3 yard touchdown pass from Jerod Monk to Justin Akers.
