LETTER: Society bettered by equal rights
October 7, 2009
I do not comprehend how any college student, let alone a senior, could have such a miniscule, [almost non-existent] understanding of the enormous role that non-discrimination, equal opportunity legislation has played in shaping a better society in this country.
Can anyone imagine the state we would be in if employers could hire according to Mr. Hasenmiller’s criteria? Landlords could rent according to Mr. Hasenmiller’s criteria. Private schools could enroll according to Mr. Hasenmiller’s criteria, and so on.
We are very lucky that the overwhelming majority of the citizens in this country do not think like Mr. Hasenmiller.
