GOLF: Women finish eighth at Windy City Collegiate

The ISU women’s golf team, ranked 23rd in the nation by Golfstat, placed eighth at the Windy City Collegiate on Tuesday afternoon with a three-day total of 899.
The tournament took place in Evanston, Ill.
The competitive field of 15 teams included top-ranked Purdue, who ran away with the team title, ousting second-place Tulane by 14 strokes.
After the first day, the Cyclones found themselves sitting in 12th place with a score of 305, but the team finished strong, scoring 296 on day two and posting the third-best round at 298 on the final day.
Individually, Iowa State was led by senior Pennapa Pulsawath, who finished the tournament in a tie for 12th with a total of 219. After scoring a 5-over-par 77 on day one, Pulsawath finished impressively, carding back-to-back one-under 71s.
ISU freshman Punpaka Phuntumabamrung tied for 32nd at 226, and Victoria Stefansen and Kristin Paulson tied for 35th at 227.
The Cyclones will head to Iowa City on Oct. 17 to compete in the Hawkeye Invitational.
