Ames welcomes Japanese culture, drumming Sunday

The Yamato Drummers of Japan, known for their exhilarating percussion skills on a variety of Japanese drums, will perform Sunday at Stephens Auditorium.

In addition to its array of musical skills, the group also mix in Japanese dance and authentic Japanese costumes into performance. The drummers also combine drums with the timpani and flute.

The group was founded by Masa Ogawa in 1993 in Nara, which is said to be the birthplace of Japanese culture. So far, they have played over 800 shows in countries such as Germany, England, Israel, Chins, Korea, Belgium, Austria, the Netherlands and Brazil.
