Finances,Live Green discussed

The Government of the Student Body appropriated much of its time to discussing finances at Wednesday’s’s meeting.
Kayla Pinegar, GSB treasurer and junior in accounting, said that there is $500,000 in the GSB trust fund and shared with the senate some potential ways the money could be used.
One option Pinegar discussed was utilizing allocated funds to update Cyride services. She noted the Wallace-Wilson-Brown route is in need of updating.
Tom Danielson, finance director and senior in civil engineering, and Pinegar gave a presentation titled “GSB Finance 101.”
The presentation featured an overview of how GSB receives its funds, how the regular and special allocation cycles work and other ways organizations can move around funding from the GSB.
Danielson also mentioned that there is currently $630,000 in capital investment funds.
Merry Rankin, Office of Sustainability program manager, gave a presentation during the programs session of the meeting.
Rankin outlined a list of actions the university will take in order to become a green-friendly campus.
The first of the actions she highlighted was energy use on campus.
Rankin said that the Office of Sustainability is able to monitor how much energy each building consumes.
She also noted that the campus is considering energy sourcing and that the Office of Sustainability is trying to reduce its consumption of fossil fuels. The office’s goal is to have 10 percent of its energy come through wind power by 2010, Rankin said.
Senate also voted in favor of seating a group of new senators.
Teresa Tompkins, senior in solitical sciences, was appointed a Campustown Senator.
Lidia Esteve Agelet, graduate student in agricultural and biosystems engineering, and Navneet Malani, graduate student in electrical and computer engineering, will serve as graduate senators and act as liaisons for the Graduate Professional Student Senate.
