Iowa State trailed for the first time of the 2009 season after Iowa scored in the 18th minute Friday night.

The Hawkeyes (6-2) took the 1-0 lead into halftime after the Cyclones (4-1-3) appeared to start the game with less intensity than they had in their first seven games.

“We came out sluggish in the first half,” head coach Wendy Dillinger said in a press release. “We didn’t come out the way we have all year.”

Iowa took a 2-0 lead after Alexandria Seydel scored on a penalty kick in 17th minute of the second half.

The Cyclones were out shot 11-9 in the game, but held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Ann Gleason made two saves in the game while freshman Jordan Wagner led the Cyclones in shots with three.

Tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., Iowa State will take on another in-state rival, Drake, in Des Moines before starting conference play next week.

“Tonight will be good preparation for conference play which starts next weekend,” Dillinger said.
