Cyclone hockey got off to a fast start Friday night with a 13-1 win over Missouri.

Iowa State jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first period, with goals from five different players, including a shorthanded goal from Matt Verdoni and power play goals from David Kurbatsky, Jason Pacheco and Mike Lebler.

The second period was still dominant for the Cyclones’ attack. Justin Wilkinson and Brent Corneilius got in on the scoring with goals early in the period, while Kurbatsky earned a hat trick at the 14-minute 58-second mark in the period, and Lebler notched another goal near the end of the second.

The fireworks slowed in the final period, as Iowa State put up only two more goals to make the 13-1 final.

Iowa State goalie Erik Hudson held Missouri to just one goal in the first, and made seven saves in the second period. Then, in the third, Paul Karus entered the game and has still not allowed a goal in his Cyclone career, after making six saves in the period.

The Cyclones take on Missouri again Saturday.
