The ownership will change, but the age-old recipes for Battle’s sauce and smoked meats will stay the same.

Battle’s Bar-B-Q, 218 Welch Ave., will re-open at 11 a.m. Friday under the ownership of Matthew Goodman, Ames City Councilman and owner of both The Fighting Burrito and Smiles & Gyros.

The restaurant, a staple in Campustown since it opened in 1986, was shut down in July by the Iowa Department of Revenue due to unpaid taxes.

Goodman said there are changes he would like to bring to the eatery.

“We’re probably going to really work on consistency and efficiency,” Goodman said.

But, he said, patrons of the restaurant should find the kind of barbecue they have come to expect of Battle’s.

Goodman said his goal is to give customers a faster experience, “but with the same deliciousness of yore.”
