GSB approves money for clubs, hears from Leopold Center

Paige Godden —

The Government of the Student Body unanimously voted to fund the Korean Language club $884.06 at Wednesday’s meeting.

The money will be used to buy textbooks to help teach its 48 members.

GSB also funded Developed, a photography club, $1,183.70 to help pay for conferences.

On Wednesday’s agenda, GSB was scheduled to discuss allocating money to the Lacrosse club, but didn’t since the team is no longer having financial troubles.

“The Lacrosse club magically found money and they are no longer in debt,” said Tom Danielson, GSB financial director and senior in civil engineering.

The AIDS Walk club was also scheduled to request funds, but after asking to postpone its request, the “Ratifying the Debt Contract with the AIDS Walk” legislation was tabled

GSB is now looking for students in the College of Design to submit ideas to replace its existing logo.

“We wanted to open up communications between the GSB and the design college, and thought that our old logo was boring,” said Chelsea Zigtema, senator and junior in sociology.

All designs should be submitted by 8 p.m. on Oct. 12 to [email protected].

Jerry DeWitt, director of the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, gave a presentation to GSB as well. “We’re a center that goes well beyond agriculture. We work with communities,” DeWitt said.

The goals of the Leopold Center include being economically viable and profitable, environmentally sound, and socially responsible. “We have to make sure we conduct agriculture so it’s not only good for ourselves, but good for our families, neighbors, and communities,” DeWitt said.

The Center receives around $1.8 million from the state and gives about $1.5 in scholarships.
