5:49 4th Quarter — Iowa added another seven points to their lead on a 10-yard pass to Keenan Davis for a 35-3 lead.
Iowa ate 5:15 off the clock with their most recent scoring drive, leaving just 5:49 in the fourth quarter of the annual battle for the Cy-Hawk Trophy.
11:04 4th Quarter — Iowa’s defense was in the right place at the right time for the sixth time today, as Iowa State backup quarterback Jerome Tiller was intercepted, the Cyclones’ fifth interception of the day.
Tiller, who looked impressive early in the drive, threw to an unexpecting Derek Catlett resulting in the ball ending up in Iowa’s Tyler Sash’s hands for the third time.
0:00 3rd Quarter — Iowa is in control in the battle for the Cy-Hawk Trophy.
With just 15 minutes left to play in the game, the Hawkeyes hold a 28-3 lead, and show no signs of letting the Iowa State offense anywhere near the end zone.
The Cyclones have now gone 13 quarters without a touchdown against their bitter in-state rivals.
4:42 3rd Quarter — The Hawkeyes have another touchdown on the board after Austen Arnaud’s fourth interception of the day.
A 14-yard run from freshman Brandon Wegher set up a 39-yard pass from Ricky Stanzi to Trey Stross, which was followed by two runs from Wegher to cover the remaining four yards and get the touchdown.
The 25-point deficit is the largest in an Iowa-Iowa State game since Iowa State won 23-3 in 2005.
9:25 3rd Quarter — Iowa jumped out to a 21-3 lead on the Cyclones after the Iowa State fumble earlier in the quarter.
Iowa drove 48 yards in eight plays, and capped the scoring drive with a seven-yard touchdown pass from Ricky Stanzi to tight end Allen Reisner.
13:13 3rd Quarter — Iowa State’s offensive struggles continue after an Alexander Robinson fumble ended their opening drive of the second half.
Robinson worked to the left on an option play before the ball popped out and was recovered by Iowa’s Jeremiha Hunter.
0:00 2nd Quarter — Austen Arnaud over shot Marquis Hamilton near the Iowa end zone, leading to another interception for the Hawkeye defense.
This time, it was Brett Greenwood that was in the right place at the right time for the Iowa defense, ending a productive drive for the Cyclone offense.
The Iowa offense then ran out the remaining two minutes off of the first half clock, taking a 14-3 lead into halftime.
2:56 2nd Quarter — The Hawkeyes have taken control of the battle for the Cy-Hawk trophy after an 18-yard touchdown pass to Derrell Johnson-Koulianos.
Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi was handed tremendous field position after a Tyler Sash interception, and wasted no time in getting back onto the scoreboard, taking the lead 14-3.
4:25 2nd Quarter — Iowa’s Tyler Sash has made his second interception of the day, as well, after another Austen Arnaud pass was tipped into the safety’s path.
Sash, a sophomore from Oskaloosa, brought the ball back to the Iowa State 24 yard line before being tackled.
The score is 7-3 in favor of Iowa, but the Hawkeyes were immediately put in scoring position once again after the turnover.
9:53 2nd Quarter — Iowa State’s David Sims made his second interception of the day on an overthrown pass from Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi.
With Iowa driving, but on third and long, Stanzi dropped back and looked down field, but over shot his target, leading to the Sims pick and return to the Iowa 45 yard line.
0:00 1st Quarter — Iowa State trails their in-state rival Hawkeyes 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.
Iowa got on the board late in the quarter with a 41-yard touchdown drive immediately after the Cyclones got three points from Grant Mahoney.
The Cyclones will have the football at the start of the second quarter on their own 32 yard line.
1:43 1st Quarter — After an attempted onside kick was recovered by the Hawkeyes, Iowa drove 41 yards — with the help of a 15-yard late hit penalty on the Cyclones’ Kennard Banks — and put the ball in the end zone on a one-yard pass from Ricky Stanzi to fullback Brett Morse.
2:33 1st Quarter — Iowa State jumped on top by a score of 3-0 with a 46-yard field goal from Grant Mahoney. The scoring drive was 11 plays for 46 yards, and took just over four minutes off the clock.
On second down, running back Alexander Robinson took the ball off left tackle for a large gain inside the Iowa 15, but the play was negated by a holding penalty, forcing the drive to stall.
12:32 1st Quarter – Austen Arnaud returned the favor to the Hawkeyes on the third play of the Cyclone’s first offensive series.
Arnaud, with plenty of time in the pocket, threw into triple coverage toward tight end Wallace Franklin.
The ball was tipped before it was intercepted by Iowa safety Tyler Sash.
13:55 1st quarter — The game fans and students across the state have been waiting for kicked off at 11:10 with a Grant Mahoney kickoff that was returned by Amari Spievey to the Iowa 20 yard line.
Then, with Iowa driving, Iowa State’s senior linebacker Jesse Smith hit Iowa’s Ricky Stanzi as he threw, forcing a bad throw down field. The Cyclone’s David Sims made an acrobatic, one-handed interception, giving the ball to the high-powered Iowa State offense.
