Redshirt freshman Kurt Hammerschmidt has been suspended, it was announced Wednesday.

“I have indefinitely suspended Kurt Hammerschmidt from our football program for a violation of team rules,” head coach Paul Rhoads said.

According to police records, Hammerschmidt was arrested just after 2 a.m. Monday and charged with operating while intoxicated.

Hammerschmidt, 20, is a tight end from Chesterfield, Mo., and did not see the field in the season opener against North Dakota State. He redshirted during the 2008 season.
