GOLF: Men and Women finish weekend tournaments

Iowa State’s women’s golf team finished fifth this weekend at the Lady Northern Invitational in Madison, Wis..
The Cyclones posted a score of 891 in three rounds of competition, 56 strokes behind tournament champion Purdue.
Junior Laurence Herman was the top ISU finisher, her three-round total of 220 good enough for seventh. Herman’s senior teammate Pennapa Pulsawath was next for the Cyclones, finishing ninth with a score of 221.
The remaining Cyclone competitors were freshman Punpaka Phuntumabamrung, sophomore Kristin Paulson, junior Victoria Stefansen and freshman Katie Suckow.
Meanwhile, Iowa State’s Ben Herrera shot a three-round team-high score of 213 as the Cyclone men’s golf team placed seventh out of 14 at last weekend’s Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Herrera’s three-round total (72–72–69) allowed him to finish 11th overall. Junior Nathan Leary was Iowa State’s second-highest finisher, placing 23rd with an overall score of 219. Sophomore Nate McCoy and junior Jacob Aaholm also finished in the top-30 as the two tied for 28th.
Host team Michigan won the tournament with a team score of 840.
The Cyclones head to New Haven, Conn., next weekend for the McDonald Cup.
