David O’Brien, freshman in pre-architecture, won a moonman at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night.
O’Brien was part of the group Nerds in Disguise, composed of his high school friends from Chatham, Ill., who created a music video for an Internet contest. The grand prize was a trip to New York City for the award show, where they would perform.
The music video, set to Lit’s 1999 single “My Own Worst Enemy,” was directed by Matt Hartzler, now a freshman at Amherst College. Out of more than 600 entries, it was chosen as one of five finalists. Voting was open to the public and lasted for one month where it garnered the most votes.
