VOLLEYBALL: Iowa State upends Drake, Northern Colorado

Saturday morning the Cyclone volleyball team started its day with a 3-1 victory over the Drake Bulldogs (25-18, 25-14, 26-28, 25-15).

After the Bulldogs took set three from Iowa State the Cyclones answered with 13 kills and a solid victory to finish the match.

Saturday night Iowa State swept Northern Colorado in its last game of the Hawkeye Challenge in Iowa City, Iowa 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-19).

At the net, Iowa State combined for a .236 attacking percentage in three sets and junior Victoria Henson posted 11 kills to lead the Cyclones.

Senior middle blocker Diane Kieger finished with ten kills of her own in Iowa State’s offensive showing. Also at the net, Kieger added five block assists and one solo against the Bears.

Northern Colorado’s Ashley Lichtenberg was the only Bear to finish with double digits in kills with 10.

With Saturday’s victories, the Cyclones improve to 8-1 and finished 3-0 in the Hawkeye Challenge. The last time an Iowa State volleyball squad started a season with an 8-1 record was in 1997.
