Agenda attempts to address debt
September 21, 2009
The Government of the Student Body will discuss entering into debt contracts with two student organizations, the AIDS Walk and the Iowa State Lacrosse Club at Wednesday’s meeting.
The purpose of the contracts is to remove the clubs from their current debts.
“When a club goes into debt, they can’t receive GSB allocations,” said Chandra Peterson, vice president of GSB and junior in political science. “If your club is in debt, everything would just stop.”
Most clubs that are in debt arrive in that situation after switching treasurers or if the club’s leaders do not fully understanding their financial situations, Peterson said.
GSB will also vote on whether to supply Developed, a photography club, with funds because the club missed the regular allocations process for fiscal year. 2010.
Clubs that missed regular allocations last year or have unforeseen expenses that pop up unexpectedly this year may be eligible for special allocations funding.
Organizations in need of special allocations must attend at least one informational session.
The meetings will be held Thursday at 7 p.m., Monday at noon, and Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. in Room 3512 of the Memorial Union.
“In these sessions the organizations will learn how to create their budgets to present to the financial committee,” said Tom Danielson, financial director of GSB and senior in civil engineering.
The organizations must submit budgets to GSB in order to receive the requested funds.
Budgets are due Oct. 9 at midnight.
