The Maintenance Shop released its much-anticipated fall schedule Monday, drawing in a variety of responses.

“I’m not too impressed with the lineup. There’s only really two bands that I know and I could see myself actually going to,” said Jake Wiedmann, junior in advertising. “I might do what I do before a festival and look some of them up beforehand to see if they’d be worthwhile, but I just haven’t even heard of most of them.”

The M-Shop will kick off its season Aug. 29 with a CD release party for Bombardier, a local Ames band that is self-characterized on Myspace.com as a blend of rock, alternative and funk.

The group will play with special guests SNAFU, Atombender and Super Robot Baby.

“We’ve got a pretty solid lineup for the season,” said Mike Taylor, co-director of the M-Shop and junior in pre-business. “We’re just trying to bring in a lot of different types of music and entertainment that everyone can enjoy.”

As of Wednesday, there are 24 confirmed shows and events at the Maintenance Shop scheduled for the fall semester, running up through Nov. 20.

Steve Satterlee, M-Shop programs coordinator, said he is pretty excited for the season.

“We’re bringing in new acts, and then we’ve got some people returning,” Satterlee said.“We’re really bringing in a lot of bigger names that wouldn’t ever step into Ames otherwise.”

Satterlee said they have just confirmed the appearance of The Veronicas, an international pop-punk duo out of Brisbane, Australia, that is touring with Kelly Clarkson this fall.

The popular Open Mic Nights, which give people the chance to show off their talents at the Maintenance Shop, will be held on the first and third Tuesday of every month, at 8 p.m..

Preformers will need to show up at 7 p.m. in order to register for a spot.

Grandma Mojo’s Moonshine Revival comedy troupe will return for its usual comedic spot on Wednesday nights throughout the semester.
