Campbell will seek re-election
August 5, 2009
Mayor Ann Campbell announced Thursday that she will seek another term in the November City Council elections.
Campbell has been involved with the Council for 16 years and first served as mayor in 2006, according to the City of Ames Web site.
Ames is at “crossroads,” Campbell wrote in a press release, and there are many issues facing the city. She wrote that “compromise and consensus building will be crucial in advancing any, or all, of the subjects at hand.”
“The list of major issues on our plates includes capitalizing on the Main Street Iowa program to make all of downtown Ames a vital and attractive center, joining forces with ISU and private developers to make Campustown an inviting front door to Iowa State University, coming to consensus on commercial and industrial development, providing coordinated services for human service needs, and nurturing our many cultural and entertainment opportunities,” she wrote.
Campbell is the last of four Council members to announce their intent. Councilman Dan Rice and Councilman Ryan Doll have previously stated their intent to run. Councilman Jim Popken announced Wednesday that he would not seek another term.
