With the end of summer getting close, the variety of outdoor music shows is getting pretty limited. Luckily, one establishment in Ames has a couple of events scheduled through the early part of September.

The second artist performing in the Olde Main Concert Series will take the stage Saturday.

The concert series has been taking place for the last three years.

Matt Sinnwell, brewery sales manager for Olde Main Brewing Co., 316 Main St., said at the last show, about 200 people showed up for what he considered a good time.

“It’s something kind of fun, a little change of pace,” Sinnwell said. “…I mean, what else are you going to do on a Friday night? You can sit inside at home, or go to a movie, but you can do that any weekend. We only have three of these a year, so why not take an advantage of them when they come around?”

Radio Moscow, from Story City, hit the stage last Saturday, playing to a large and anxious crowd.

It will be followed by the Dig Angees, from Des Moines, this weekend and Public Property, from Iowa City, during the last weekend of the series.

The Dig Angees is an indie band with quite a successful résumé for a three-year existence.

So far the band has released an independent full-length CD and played at some big music events in Des Moines, including the Gross Domestic Product festival and both years of 80/35.

In addition, it also came in third place in a nationwide battle of the bands, competing against 3,000 other bands.

As many big shows as the band has played in its short existence, Brenton Dean, singer and guitarist for The Dig Angees, said he is really looking forward to playing at the Olde Main Concert Series.

“I attended the last Olde Main event with Radio Moscow, and it was such a great time. I saw them get up there and rock it out. It just gets me so excited to get up there and rock it out myself. Plus, we’ll be playing two new songs,” Dean said.

Cost of cover varies each night, depending on which band is playing.

Attendance is limited to those 21 and over.

Concerts begin at 8:15 p.m. outside Olde Main downtown. Food and beer will be served, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets.
