An ISU freshman may be infected with the H1N1 flu, according to the ISU news service.
The student is being tested for what may be the first probable case of the H1N1 virus in Story County.
According to the release, the student tested positive for Type A Influenza on Friday, during a visit to Thielen Student Health Center.
The student is from Marshalltown and visited there between April 25 and 26 before becoming sick, although “there is no known, direct connection between the ISU student and any of the probable H1N1 cases in Marshall County,” according to the press release.
The student lived in Helser Hall but has checked out for the summer, said Pete Englin, director of the department of residence, in the release. “The student’s roommate and a study partner – the only members of the ISU community with whom she had frequent and close contact – are not exhibiting flu symptoms at this time,” according to the release.
The department has planned to hold a meeting for students who live on her floor Tuesday, according to the release.
Students who may be experiencing flulike symptoms are encouraged to make alternative arrangements for final exams, according to the release.
