LETTERS: Same-sex unions downfall of heterosexual marriage?
April 22, 2009
I must express my sincere condolences to Trudy Rants and Marilyn King. Now that our state Supreme Court has unanimously voted to lift the ban on same-sex marriage, I am sure it is just a matter of time before their respective husbands, state representative Christopher Rants and U.S. representative Steve King, file divorce papers.
I’m sure their marriages were happy and steadfast in the days before April 3, but now that homosexuals will soon wed, it has permanently eroded the sacredness of their vows to each other and the validity of their marriages.
I believe that it won’t stop with just those two marriages. Heterosexual couples across Iowa will come home to their (previously) loved ones and sense the eroding sanctity of their marriages. In fact, I think that “homosexual invalidation” will become a top reason for divorce, displacing “irreconcilable differences.”
