Former ISU student Atiba Spellman’s murder trial will begin Tuesday in the Story County Justice Center.

Spellman is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Michael Odikro and Shakena Varnell.

Odikro and Varnell were found dead near the 1100 block of Pinon Drive last December. Spellman, who was originally classified as a person of interest, was eventually apprehended in North Carolina, where police said Spellman’s father lived.

Spellman had a long record of domestic disputes with Varnell, his former girlfriend.
