LETTERS: Columnist offends readers with articles of ‘brash criticism’
January 14, 2009
I would like to thank Jason Albert for his enlightening letter commenting on his views on Sophie Prell’s so-called “journalism.” I am glad someone finally took the time to speak up and voice their opinion on this issue. Prell is not a journalist; her articles are biased and brash criticism at best. As a member of a fraternity on campus, I know I speak for others when I say I was highly offended by her past article accusing members of a neighboring fraternity of certain dishonorable acts, including rape, all based off of just a few words she heard muttered. I understand Prell has the right of free speech and is not subject to censoring, but every time I open the opinion section and see another article by Sophie Prell, I just cringe and mutter something under my breath and turn the page.
I would rather see classifieds and advertisements filling the space devoted to her bigoted feelings.
I hope I am not alone in writing to you, applauding your decision to print Albert’s opinion.
Thank you.
