LETTERS: Students need to utilize opportunities
January 14, 2009
The City of Ames is now offering tremendous leadership opportunities to students and residents of Ames to serve on numerous city boards and commissions. Most appointments are for a three-year time period; however, the Parks and Recreation Commission, the Public Art Commission and the Human Relations Commission also offer one-year terms, which may be more accommodating to student time frames.
City relations and government affect the lives of all students residing in Ames and it is important to have leaders on this level. These boards and commissions allow students to project their voices and opinions and perform a valuable service to the city of Ames.
Applications for appointments are currently open. The application deadline is Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. Terms will begin on April 1. Interested students and residents can find more information about each board and commission, as well as apply by visiting www.cityofames.org/CityClerk/BoardsAndCommissions or by picking up a packet in the Government of the Student Body Office in the West Student Office Space of the Memorial Union. Any questions can be directed to Daniel Fischer at [email protected] or Ann Campbell at [email protected].
