For the third time this season Iowa State sophomore forward Craig Brackins was named the Big 12 player of the week for the week of Jan. 19.
The Palmdale, Calif., native is coming off a dominating performance against Kansas, when he dropped 42 points – the fourth highest single game point total in the history of the Big 12. As if that wasn’t enough, Brackins contributed 14 rebounds to earn his eighth double-double of the year.
His offensive explosion increased his season scoring average by more than a point to 19.3 points per game. Brackins is now second in the Big 12 in scoring – behind Oklahoma’s Blake Griffin (22.2 ppg) – and averages 23.3 ppg in the Cyclones’ four conference games.
Former Cyclone Marcus Fizer’ is the only Iowa State player to win the award more times in a single season, being named player of the week four times during the 1999-2000 season.
