Regents adopt new sexual assault policies

CEDAR FALLS (AP) — The University of Iowa says it will replace an informal reporting practice for sexual assaults with a more understandable and streamlined procedure.
Iowa President Sally Mason told the Iowa Board of Regents on Thursday that she wants victims to better understand their options in the wake of a sexual-assault scandal at the school that was criticized in a review by an outside law firm.
Iowa’s other public universities also will update their sexual assault reporting procedures.
The regents unanimously voted to accept the new policies at their meeting in Cedar Falls.
Regent President David Miles says eliminating the informal reporting practice will prevent victim confusion.
