Less than a week after naming Bill Bleil as an assistant coach, Iowa State’s new head coach Paul Rhoads made his second hire, tagging Chris Ash as the secondary coach.
Ash, who is a native of Ottumwa, is no stranger to Iowa State after serving as a coach under former Cyclone head coach Dan McCarney from 2000-2005. Since his time in Ames Ash has worked as the secondary coach at San Diego State.
“We are fortunate to hire someone so respected in the coaching who also has ties to Iowa State and the state of Iowa,” Rhoads said in a press release. “Chris is a very good recruiter and that is another reason I am bringing him back to ISU.”
Before joining McCarney’s staff in 2000, Ash was the defensive coordinator at his alma mater, Drake University, where the Bulldogs’ defense ranked eighth in the nation during the 1998 season.
