VOLLEYBALL: Hitting Errors Cost Cyclones Trip to Final Four

After dropping the first two sets against Texas on Saturday, The Cyclones weren’t able to comeback like they did against Oregon on Friday. Iowa State ended its NCAA Tournament run after falling to No. 3 Texas in four sets (19-25, 19-25, 25-17, 12-25).
The Cyclones’ hitting percentage cost them the game. Finishing with a disappoint .062 as a team in comparison to the Horns’ .273. The Cyclones finished with 33 hitting errors on the night.
Destinee Hooker and Juliann Faucette each added 13 kills for Texas. The Longhorns finished with 51 kills and hit over .300 in the first two sets. Iowa State was led by sophomore Victoria Henson with 14 kills, followed by freshman Rachel Hockaday, who posted a dozen of her own.
Kaylee Manns posted 35 assists for the Cyclones, and libero Ashley Mass grabbed 15 digs, both low numbers for the standout Iowa State starters.
The first set was back and forth, with a dozen tie scores in the set. Texas then went on a 6-0 run to make it 19-16 and eventually took the set. The Cyclones had eight attacking errors in the first set alone.
Set three the Cyclones made it look like a repeat of the upset over Oregon would ensue. Iowa State out blocked the Longhorns four to zero in the third set. The Cyclones hit .357 in the third set.
Set four was all Texas. The Longhorns went on a 19-2 run to finish out the game and secure a spot in the final four. Texas out-hit the Cyclones 13 to five in the final set of the game.
