November 9, 2008
Sean Haluska had 16 points and Craig Brackins added 17 as Iowa State put together a 74-54 exhibition victory over Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday.
The Cyclones started with an early 12-0 lead and never looked back. Iowa State held the Mavericks scoreless until an Andrew Bridger jumper put UNO on the board with 14 minutes, 20 seconds left in the first half.
Freshmen saw playing time in their first exhibition games. Dominique Buckley, Justin Hamilton and Clinton Mann all came in after the first media timeout in the first half, and L.A. Pomlee also saw time. The freshmen saw scattered time over the rest of the game.
One of the most exciting moments in the game came when freshman Hamilton followed up a block of Terry Aaron with a dunk at the other end. Hamilton finished with four points.
Transfer Jamie Vanderbeken also saw 11 minutes of playing time and scored five points.
Diante Garrett had a team-high 10 assists. The last time Iowa State had 10 assists in a regular season game was when Curtis Stinson had 10 against Colorado on Feb. 5, 2006.
