GSB prepares for the end of second session

Allison Suesse —

The week after classes resume from Thanksgiving break, the Government of the Student Body will be holding its last meeting of the second session. All legislation needs to be voted on by Dec. 3.

It is crucial for senators to bring their legislation to the Senate, otherwise the bills they have written will die.

The Senate will be required to cast a vote for 13 pieces of legislation between now and the end of the session.

“We shouldn’t have any trouble completing these bills,” said Speaker of the Senate and junior in political science Jonathan Turk. “Longer meetings are typical for the end of the semester.”

In preparation for the end of the session, GSB President and senior in agricultural business Daniel Fischer said he believes the Senate will be “working on a few of their proposals for the end of the semester.”

In addition, Fischer will personally be taking time to think about new proposals for when classes resume in 2009.

Over Thanksgiving break, Fischer said he plans to take time to work on large executive efforts, such as the financial aid campaign GSB has been working on.

Also, Fischer has been devising ways to promote getting the student body involved with GSB next semester.

“That will be a priority pretty much right when we get back from break,” Fischer said.

GSB wants to send a survey to students to get feedback on how they feel their student government is serving the university. This will be the first survey to go out to the student body in four years, Fischer said.

Turk said he will also be working on projects over break. Because there were two senators who resigned Wednesday, Turk said he will be stay busy contacting senators to fill seats in the Public Relations and Finance committees.
