LETTERS: Greenwald for budget discipline
October 27, 2008
I’m sure most of you have already made your decision for the presidential race, but I want to stress the importance of the races that are lower on the ticket as well. Just voting for Obama isn’t enough. If we want change, we also need to think about these lower races. In particular, I want to tell you why I am voting for Becky Greenwald for Congress. As a student, one of the most important issues for me is the economy.
Becky believes in budget discipline to reduce our federal deficit. She believes that it is important to have a balanced budget and pay down our national debt.
The Republicans seem to keep borrowing from foreign nations, putting a burden on our country for years to come. Becky’s opponent Tom Latham, in particular, has voted to increase the national debt three times. He has also supported earmarks and pork-barrel spending by voting against reforms, as we would expect from somebody who has voted with the Bush administration 94 percent of the time.
In Congress, Becky Greenwald will fight to restore the budget discipline that led to record economic growth in the 1990s. She also supports fair trade agreements that raise standards for workers.
Finally, unlike Latham who has supported billions in tax breaks for overseas corporations, Becky doesn’t believe in rewarding companies for moving American jobs overseas.
So please join me in voting for Becky Greenwald in addition to Barack Obama.
