LETTERS: Volunteers for Obama can change the world
October 6, 2008
As a senior starting my final semester in civil engineering, I’m often asked about my dedication to the Obama campaign. Shouldn’t I be focusing on my studies and getting into grad school, or at least be living it up a little before I’m forced into the real world?
The fact of the matter is that the upcoming election is the most important event of my lifetime. We are at a crossroads, and I’m willing do to whatever I can to make sure America gets back on track. It’s time to take the high road to change and leave the low road to politics-as-usual behind. It’s time to renounce the politics of fear and embrace the politics of hope. It’s time to vote for something, not against.
The stakes of this election seem especially high for students and young voters as we consider our futures.
After doing the research, we find that our candidate is Barack Obama. Voting early on campus next week is one way to ensure Obama’s presidency, and thus, our future. But it’s not enough. We need to get involved and do our part.
It’s as easy as talking to our friends or setting aside an hour a day to volunteer. In the end, we are going to make the difference. We are going to change the world.
