The exhilarating feeling of being in a relationship can turn into an upsetting one when it ends.
Men and women are always in need of advice in how to get over a recent breakup. However, finding the perfect “recovery plan” can be difficult. Relationships can be confusing and not knowing how to handle the situation can lengthen the time it takes you to recover.
This past summer, Andrea Baker, junior in architecture, struggled to come to terms with how to best get over her recent breakup.
“My ex-boyfriend and I had a sort of an unofficial relationship for a year, and when we started officially dating, he got cold feet,” Baker said. “We decided to end the relationship.”
“My mom was concerned about me and she bought me two relationship self help books: ‘It’s Called a Breakup Because It’s Broken’ by Greg Behrendt and Amilira Ruotola-Behrendt and ‘He’s Just Not That Into You: Your Daily Wake-up Call’ by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo,” Baker said. “They really helped me to come to terms with the situation.”
Some men tend to handle breakup situations differently.
Taking the advice of your peers can help get you move on as well as move on to a new relationship.
“I just kept myself busy and had some great friends to lean on, and one evolved into my current boyfriend,” Baker said.
According to the “Man Law” group on Facebook, “If your best friend is dumped by a girl, it is a six month waiting period until she can be touched. If he breaks up with her, it is a six day waiting period.”
Whether or not this “man law” is true, everyone needs advice on how to recover from a breakup. In a poll of random ISU students, a common consensus was reached on how to help yourself get off the couch, away from the comfort food and on with your life.
