Dining centers go trayless
October 25, 2008
Students who ate in the dining halls Friday night found something missing.
ISU Dining conducted an experiment in trayless dining Friday to cut back on food waste. All trays were removed from the dining halls, discouraging students to pile more food on their trays than they could eat.
The Daily reported in August that the average amount of food waste per meal at the UDCC amounts to more than 450 pounds.
Iowa State is following in the footsteps of other colleges and universities that have tried trayless dining, such as Wartburg College, Luther College and the University of Minnesota.
