Cedar Rapids zoo replaces slain ducks
October 6, 2008
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A children’s zoo in Cedar Rapids will receive 70 ducklings to replace nearly 50 ducks that were killed last summer.
Cedar Rapids officials say workers were expected to pick up the ducks from a registered supplier of waterfowl in Minnesota and deliver them to the Bever Park’s Children Zoo on Tuesday.
The ducks will be housed in an old monkey house until they are old enough to be integrated with other adult birds. They will be available for public viewing next spring.
City officials say a security system also is being purchased and will be installed this fall.
A caretaker discovered the dead ducks beaten and stoned on June 25. The investigation is continuing.
