LETTERS: Global warming prevention means work
October 6, 2008
In response to Justan Spaid’s column on government control, first and foremost, global warming is occurring. It is a proven fact that the annual average global temperature has increased steadily over the past 50 years.
People who share your opinion will incite government intervention in more “green” regulations, not environmentalists. Those who do not take responsibility for their actions are the ones putting the burden on future generations. Open your windows every once in a while, if you’re warm, and put on a sweatshirt if you get cold. It’s not too hard to help a little bit. Proposed energy regulations are nothing new. Since you used California as an example, I’ll stick with it. In case you have never been there, they have serious problems with air quality. When my family moved there in 1991, we had to sell our car because it didn’t meet emissions standards at the time. The problem has only worsened since then. The only way people will listen at this point is if the government tells them to. This is why such regulations are being proposed in more densely populated areas. I’m not advocating total government control in emissions, only in areas that are too far gone to change without regulation.
It’s not just about saving money on energy and being more efficient. It’s about preserving our world for future generations.
Stop thinking in terms of money and convenience and start thinking in terms of quality of life, not just for you, but for your grandchildren.
