Cyclones continue on losing streak after falling to Kansas and Kansas State

Iowa State falls to both Kansas and Kansas State this past weekend leaving them 5-10 overall and 1-6 in Big 12 Conference play. The Cyclones, on Friday, were bested by the Kansas Jayhawks who are ranked 15, 0-7. Then on Sunday also falling to the Kansas State Wildcats 1-6.

Kansas moves on with a record of 15-4 overall and 6-2 in Big 12 Conference play. While Kansas State leaves the weekend 12-9 overall and 2-6 in Big 12 Conference play.

The Kansas Jayhawks were able to take the early lead during doubles play as they were able to clench the win in the first and third matches. Although during the second match, Annabella Bonadonna and Maty Cancini put up a tough fight against Kansas No. 61 nationally ranked doubles pair but the match went unfinished.

In the singles matchup versus Sonia Smagina, Ekaterina Grib stood out, battling tough winning the first set tiebreaker. Unfortunately in the end Grib fell short and lost in the third set tiebreaker, 10-7.

In the first doubles match, Regina Espindola and Ekaterina Grib battled against Kansas State’s Margot Decker and Anna Turco where the match ended up going unfinished.

In the following doubles matchups versus the Kansas State Wildcats, the Cyclones lost the second and third which allowed Kansas State to get the lead.

Cyclone Ekaterina Grib, once again stood out in her single matchup versus Margot Decker rallying to win 0-6, 6-2, 1-0 (9).

Maty Cancini put up a fight against Wildcat’s Linares in the first singles match forcing a third set before ultimately losing to Linares, 5-7, 7-5, 0-1 (9).

The Iowa State Cyclones look forward to their next two matches with the home court advantage. The Cyclones face Texas (13-3 overall, 6-0 Big 12 Conference play) Friday, April 12th at 11 a.m. and Baylor (6-18 overall, 1-5 Big 12 Conference play) Sunday, April 14th at 12 p.m.
