A spinoff is planned for “The L Word” about Alice (Leisha Hailey). The sixth and final season of “The L Word” begins Jan. 2009.

Anthony Edwards will return to “ER” in November as Dr. Mark Greene. Since his character died in his final episode, he will appear in flashback memories.

Horror filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro will work for Universal until 2017 with five projects planned to fill that time. He is currently writing and shooting “The Hobbit” until 2012 and will later helm “Frankenstein,” “Slaughterhouse-Five” and “Drood” — about Charles Dickens’ final days.

NBC Universal reversed a decision from last year after coming to a new deal with Apple and will offer its programs on iTunes: “Heroes,” “The Office” and “Battlestar Galactica” as well as older series such as “Miami Vice” and “The A-Team.”

NBC announced the Muppets gang will return to the small screen for “Letters to Santa — A Muppet Christmas” for the holiday season.

Sony is reportedly close to a deal that will bring actor Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi in for two more “Spider-Man” movies. “Spider-Man 4” is considered for a May 2011 release.

Fox 2000 has bought the rights to Sara Gruen’s best-selling love story “Water for Elephants.” Francis Lawrence is said to direct and Richard LaGravenese to write the adaptation.

Reports say Fox is considering a sequel to “Daredevil” and additional spinoffs from “X-Men.”

Rumors of a third “Ghostbusters” has intensified after two writers were hired for the project. Original members Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson are in talks to join.
