Pierce’s attorney: let Pierce play in France

DES MOINES, Iowa — The attorney for former University of Iowa basketball player Pierre Pierce is asking the Supreme Court to let Pierce travel to France to play professional basketball.

Alfredo Parrish asked the court Monday to uphold a ruling earlier this month by a Dallas County judge that would allow Pierce to join his new team in France.

The Supreme Court granted a request Friday by the Iowa attorney general’s office to stay the ruling.

The attorney general said there is no law allowing someone on probation to complete their sentence in another country. The attorney general said it would make it difficult to monitor Pierce’s behavior.

Parrish says it’s not a question of whether the law allows it, but whether the law prohibits the transfer of probation to another country.
