Chinese food is always a great alternative to pizza when you need something fast to eat late at night or on the weekend. ISU students are lucky because Ames has a variety of Chinese restaurants, including a buffet that offers take-out and delivery. AMUSE found a few Chinese take-out restaurants in Ames.

Golden Wok

Golden Wok delivers Chinese food to homes throughout Ames and surrounding towns. Featuring a variety of classic entrees, such as sweet and sour chicken and lo mein noodles, Golden Wok’s prices are range from $6.50 for 20 ounces of food to $8.29 for 26-ounce dishes. Golden Wok also delivers pints of premade Coldstone Creamery ice cream.

New China Restaurant

3702 Lincoln Way

New China Restaurant is located in the strip mall by west Hy-Vee, 3800 Lincoln Way. Although the restaurant does not deliver, their fast service makes takeout easy. New China features Cantonese-, Szechuan- and Hunan-style cuisines, and the dumplings are a highlight of the menu.

The prices are also reasonable, ranging between $4.95 and $11.95 for seafood specialties.

The Mandarin

415 Lincoln Way

The Mandarin has been voted the best Asian/Chinese restaurant in Story County from 2002-2006. This restaurant offers “family style” Chinese cooking by creating “the Mandarin dinner,” which consists of soup, appetizers and a selected number of entrees for any number of diners. The Mandarin does not deliver, but does offer takeout service.

King Buffet

King Buffet, located next to K-Mart, features Chinese- and American-style cuisine at this popular buffet.

While the obvious choice is to dine-in, King Buffet offers take-out boxes for patrons to fill up and take with them. Open until 11 p.m. with fresh choices, King Buffet is a great place for people running late errands or driving around Ames.

Little Taipei

Little Taipei is a staple of Campustown. Tucked away in a corner of Chamberlain, this restaurant offers generous portions for very affordable prices.
