Visit Boone to give unfamiliar restaurants a try

Are your taste crying out for variety? Perhaps trying some unfamiliar dining establishments will satisfy them up. Here are some restaurants in Boone to check out for a change:
Jimmy’s Bar-B-Que Pit
717 Story St.
Hours: Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
What it is:
Jimmy’s Bar-B-Que Pit was started four years ago by Jimmy Fangmann, ISU alumnus, who returned to Boone after living in Houston for seven years. Last month, Fangman opened a second location in Ankeny.
The Menu:
Jimmy’s specializes in traditional Texas-style barbecue.
“The most popular menu item is our beef brisket. The pork spare ribs are also very popular,” Fangmann said.
Barbecue pork, ham and turkey are also offered and served with sides including homemade potato salad, baked beans and coleslaw. For those with a sweet tooth, Jimmy’s serves sweet potato pie, lemon chess pie and a dessert of the day.
Belluci Pizza House
826 Story St.
Hours: Monday through Sunday 5 p.m.-close
What it is:
Belluci Pizza House has been family owned for the past 40 years and features classic ’70’s décor and a laid-back atmosphere. Be sure to remember to run by an ATM before you go, however – the restaurant only accepts cash.
The Menu:
Belluci is known for its thin-crust pizza and high-quality ingredients. In addition to pizza, they also serve sandwiches, the most notable of which is the Thompson. They also offer a wide range of fresh – not prepackaged – toppings the most popular of which are green olives and sausage.
“It’s all homemade. We cook all our own meats and grow fresh veggies in the summer. There are no corners cut,” said owner Chad Brensel.
Tic Toc Restaurant
716 Keeler St.
Hours: Monday through Saturday, 4 p.m.-close
What it is:
Tic Toc has a large menu with a variety of foods ranging from steak to seafood and Italian dishes to sandwiches.
Colorado Grill
1514 S. Marshall St.
Hours: 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
The Menu:
American-style grill with burgers, chicken and fries.
