Cyclones to face Huskers on Tuesday

The ISU softball team will take on Nebraska in a home-home series starting Tuesday night in Ames and concluding Thursday in Lincoln, Neb.

Nebraska has lost four of its last five games and sits just below Iowa State in conference standings, with the fewest wins in Big 12 play. Like Iowa State, the Husker offense has found it hard to score runs against a conference loaded with talent.

In Nebraska’s only conference victory of the season – a win against Baylor earlier this week – the Cornhuskers scored more runs – five – than they had scored in all of their previous seven conference games combined. Nebraska has hit just seven home runs on the season – the fewest of any team in the Big 12 – and is hitting only .173 as a team in conference play.

Nebraska is led offensively by Darcy Rutherford, hitting .367 on the season, and Meghan Mullin, whose 16 stolen bases rank 5th in the conference.

Nebraska took both games against the Cyclones last year, winning 6-1 and 3-0 in Lincoln.

Iowa State won its 25th game of the season Sunday, after taking the final game of a doubleheader against Oklahoma State. The milestone victory marked the third consecutive season that the program has improved their record – all coming during coach Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler’s tenure.

Nebraska leads the all-time series 66-18, including a 20-8 edge in Ames and a 28-4 lead in Lincoln.
