ISU President Gregory Geoffroy will make a special presentation at the faculty senate meeting Tuesday.

His speech precedes a lengthy list of agenda items to be discussed. Senate President Sedahlia Crase will preside over the meeting in the Durham Great Hall of the Memorial Union.

“We are excited about having the President address the members at the meeting. I have asked him to speak about faculty retention rates, salaries, and the current trend of decreasing tenured faculty numbers. He will also address the issue of campus security,” Crase said.

Included on the discussion list are numerous requests for new majors and minors. New bachelor degrees proposed for Iowa State include a B.S. in culinary sciences, a B.S. in global resource systems, and a B.S. in biological systems engineering.

Additional minor degrees under consideration include bioengineering, music technology, meat science, and sport and culture.

Several name changes under discussion include those in the departments of plant physiology, agricultural education and entomology.

“The long list of curriculum changes are typical this time of year because they have to work their way up through the departments,” Crase said. “It should be a good meeting.”

Additionally, the members are also slated to discuss changes to the senate by-laws and a faculty senate research policy proposal.

The meeting is being held from 3-5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
