LETTER: Fischer, Luttrell outdo opponents’ experience, outside endorsements

Students of Iowa State, next Monday and Tuesday we have a decision on who we want to have as our student body president and vice president for the upcoming year. It is a very important decision that should be taken seriously, and therefore I think we should look at what a job interview would be like if both candidates were interviewing for the positions.

The most important thing that we should look at is: who has previous experience in getting work done, specifically through the Government of the Student Body, since that is the organization they will be in charge of.

Daniel Fischer and Maggie Luttrell have lobbied for student affordability, worked to make Campustown more safe and improved student relationships with the city of Ames. The Crampton-Edwards ticket has one first-year senator who at the final debate listed one of his two largest accomplishments on GSB this year as making a survey for students about GSB once the elections are over. That is to say, he hasn’t even accomplished one of his largest accomplishments yet. His runningmate has as much experience with GSB as most of you and I do – none at all.

The final thing most of us are asked at a job interview is for recommendations. The Fischer-Luttrell ticket has been endorsed by the two previous GSB presidents, 12 current senators, the Inter-Residence Hall Association president, the Iowa State Daily, the Liberal Arts and Sciences Council and multiple members of the GSB cabinet.

The Crampton-Edwards campaign has been endorsed by College Republicans and Grandma Mojo’s Moonshine Revival. As much as I love comedy, I don’t know if Mojo’s will be able to help Crampton-Edwards make changes in GSB. Notice the absence of any GSB endorsements in their list; it has to make one wonder if they could accomplish any of their changes with no support from the group they would be working with next year.
