EDITORIAL: Goodbye to Facebook

Editorial Board

We all have that friend who deleted his or her Facebook account to make a statement – and maybe live a more productive life.

But they come crying back less than a month later, and all of the information from their account is back. They don’t have to add all of their friends again or write out their favorite movies.

It’s like a drug. And this week, Facebook said it’s staging detox.

Facebook announced this week that it will be possible for users to delete their personal profile page – for good.

In the past, users could deactivate their account, and all the information stayed on Facebook’s servers.

Now, users can send the company an e-mail to have their profiles deleted permanently.

It’s a scary thought for those people who have a love-hate relationship with Facebook. However, we think it is a good thing. Privacy is great, especially in this age, when it feels like everyone’s personal information is just a search away.
