LETTER: Fischer-Luttrell candidacy best for GSB

The mission of Government of the Student Body is to strengthen students’ voices and enhance students’ experiences through active representation, engagement and support. For GSB to fulfill this mission, leaders with an ambitious work ethic, proper communication skills and prior experience need to be elected. Daniel Fischer and Maggie Luttrell have showcased these traits in the past year through their representation of students to the Ames City Council, the Board of Regents and the state legislature.

The Fischer-Luttrell candidacy will do the best job of listening to students’ concerns and communicating them to important political figures. Many students have never even heard of GSB and have never been asked what they think of issues, and as a result, they have become very apathetic about the role of GSB.

For active engagement and better two-way communication between students and representatives, the Fischer-Luttrell candidacy plans to attend many student organizations’ meetings, and work with other clubs to host events and hold more open forums. They then plan to communicate the news of other governmental bodies through executive reports in the Iowa State Daily and through an interactive radio show they plan to create.

GSB is meant to serve all student interests – not just a convenient few. The Fischer-Luttrell ticket understands this concept and will be receptive to everyone. Many candidates promise better communication, but few can deliver the way that Fischer-Luttrell will. You can find their full platform at www.fischerluttrell.com. I will be voting for Fischer-Luttrell on March 10th at www.vote.iastate.edu, and I encourage you to do the same!
